I think we’re entering a new era of headwear.

And no, I’m not talking about 59Fifty. Although ironically, it really is the pioneer of this scene

For years, a hat has simply been that final little addition to the fit. You know the one… Outfit’s looking decent, but something’s missing? Just throw on a fitted. Maybe a bad hair day? Easy fix; Beanie.

But something has changed.

The hat isn’t just completing the fit anymore. For a new wave of UK brands, the hat IS the fit.

Whilst we’ve always had brands making great hats, I’m seeing more and more UK Streetwear brands giving us stuff we just haven’t seen before. Different silhouettes, different materials, different ways of wearing them. Fitteds, truckers, beanies, 5-panels, buckets — yeah we’re getting spoiled.

I’ve spoken about fitted caps quite a while already, so let’s not sit here and pretend like this whole thing started yesterday.

Fitted Caps have been dominant and probably always will be, at least for me.

And what I’m enjoying the most about that fact, is seeing brands outside of the traditional New Era ecosystem, take the silhouette and make it their own.

You see there’s a difference between putting your logo on a fitted and actually building an identity around a hat.

And that key distinction is what matters the most .

Creating a hat isn’t rocket science in practice. Five or Six panels, nice logo, bold colour-way. Simple.

But the greats? Now that’s where real showmanship and creativity comes in,

Let’s look at Deguisement. Now this isn’t your regular shmegular cap… this is genuinely artwork which just so happens to be worn on your head.

Everything about the cap feels personal, it feels intentional, and it feels brand new.

And the trucker has been around forever. Like it’s not a revolutionary silhouette.

But when you change the story around it, suddenly it feels fresh again.

And then there’s the other side of this.

Headwear is becoming more and more personal.

Like II think we’re entering a period where people are genuinely using their hats almost like jewellery.

Think about it.

You can have on the most basic white tee and jeans combination in the world, but put the right fitted on your head and suddenly the whole thing makes sense.

And that, that’s something which is gonna live forever.

And unlike a lot of other pieces in your wardrobe, your hat is basically sitting in the first place everyone looks when they see you.

Headwear doesn't feel like an accessory anymore. It feels like its own category.
